Christmas 2008

We had a wonderful Christmas! Greg's parents came into town and Jennifer, Jeff, Brianna and Zachary also came over for Christmas Eve. Greg's Mom stayed a couple extra days to help out with a couple baby projects (including painting the nursery)!! Here are a few photos for Christmas Eve. I will post pictures of the nursery when it is complete!Christmas Eve 2008

Week 20

This was an exciting week. . . first of all, the baby started to really KICK this weekend!! Up until now, I have just felt little flutters but this weekend she started to really kick with force. It started on Friday night while I was watching a Piston's game (hopefully a sign that she will be a fan!) but has continued everyday since then.

We also had a houseful of company to celebrate an early Christmas and my Mom's birthday. My brother Trevor and his wife Lena and their children Asher and Savannah came into town from Sault Ste Marie. My sister Anita and her husband Pete and their children Ty and Kiley came into town from the Detroit area. And of course my sister Jennifer and her husband Jeff and their children Brianna and Zachary (who live in Schoolcraft) were at the party as well. We surprised my Mom (she was visiting from the UP) for her birthday to have everyone together. It was the first time all 6 grandchildren have been together at the same time!!!!!!! Our house was FULL of activity with all six kids running around - what a fun weekend!!!

Photos from this weekend!!!

All of us!!!!!!!
All 6 Grandchildren (yes this was the best photo we could get - they were all high energy)!!!

Kiley is all smiles with her new lip gloss!
Special thank you to Kiley for bringing totes of her clothes that she has outgrown so her our little girl can use them. Kiley is so nice to share with her little cousin-to-be!!!!

19 Weeks

Today was our ultrasound and we found out we are having a GIRL!!!!! Greg's Mom was in town and was able to be with us in the room for the ultrasound so that was really special. The doctor said the baby is perfectly healthy and has all of her little fingers and toes. She was very active during the ultrasound and was moving all over the place but kept her legs closed for most of it. It took some poking and me rolling over for her to uncross her legs! Her heartbeat was strong and was 144 beats per minute.

Greg's Mom took this picture in the parking lot of the doctor's office after our ultrasound. Pay no attention to Greg's cheesy smile - he was being goofy!!!

Greg and I are very thankful on this day before Thanksgiving that we are expecting a healthy baby girl!!!!

16 Weeks

I finally felt the baby move this weekend! I was relaxing on the couch and felt a weird flutter (almost like a vibration) in my tummy. I had never felt anything like that before. Then it stopped so I poked my tummy and it started again!! After that, I have been feeling it pretty regularly. It happens a lot when I am sitting at my desk at work. The first day that it happened at work, it was distracting because it was such a neat feeling! I could barely concentrate on working. After hearing the heartbeat and seeing the ultrasound, the baby seems real, but for some reason this was the most eye opening experience yet – I have a baby growing inside me!!!! WOW! What a miracle!!

I had my 16 week appointment this week. The baby is doing great and is continuing to grow! Still has a nice strong heartbeat. This time it was 153 beats per minute so it was a little slower than the first time I heard it. Looking forward to the ultrasound at our next appointment!!! I am definitely showing now and maternity clothes are a must! But I am feeling fantastic, other than having a little less energy, I feel completely back to my normal self. I am so filled with excitement lately!!!

12 Weeks

Finally starting to feel good – It is like a switch was turned off this week and I am not sick anymore!!!!! I am starting to show and my pants are not really buttoning – good thing it isn’t a secret anymore. I had my 12 week doctor’s appointment today and got to hear the heartbeat for the first time!! That was pretty amazing!! It was a strong heartbeat and was pretty fast too – it was 163 beats per minute. Anything between 120 and 180 is considered normal. The doctor said everything else looks great! He does think that I am a couple days further along than we originally thought so he did an ultrasound!! That was the best part of the appointment – I was expecting that!! I know I am partial but the ultrasound pictures are the cutest pictures I have ever seen. You can see the facial features and its little arms behind its head. In one picture the hand is up by its face and it is saluting!! What a cool day!

10 Weeks

Still feeling pretty icky and low energy but am getting more and more excited about being pregnant (even through the sickness)! Greg and I have been walking a lot after work which is nice, we can’t go as far as usual since I get tired but it is nice to be out walking and chatting about the baby. Greg and I are both surprised at how excited we are getting. We can’t wait for my 12 week appointment to hear the heartbeat and know everything is ok! We started telling family and friends this week that we are expecting – it is so much fun to share the news! We are definitely surprising a lot of people!!!

This week the baby got to go to its first concert, we went to see Gordon Lightfoot with Bobbi and Jeremy Stoner. It was lots of fun and I stayed awake for the whole thing! My books say the baby can hear now – hopefully he/she is as big of a Gordon Lightfoot fan as dad!

8 Weeks

I had my first doctor’s appointment this week. I didn’t actually see the doctor but talked to the nurse for over an hour. It was very comforting to be able to ask questions and get lots of good info. The morning sickness has gotten worse. It hits randomly during the day and when it hits it is pretty much all consuming. Food helps settle my stomach and Greg is great about rubbing my head to help me fall asleep! I will be glad to get over this part!!

5 Weeks

I didn’t expect to feel pregnant yet but am already showing signs. I have morning sickness a bit but it is not that bad. I took the baby on its first plane ride!! I had a business trip in New York this week. It was hard to keep my pregnancy a secret. I did have to tell one co-worker to cover for me since I was not drinking (a clear sign I am pregnant)! The trip went pretty good – I am very tired these days though. Must be a lot of activity going on inside me already!!

We're Pregnant!!!

We are PREGNANT!!!! It is official – Greg and I are expecting a baby in April!! We took the pregnancy test on Sunday to confirm although I had suspected it was true for a couple days now. Greg was very surprised that we could find out so soon and that we got pregnant so quick! Wow – I think it will take awhile for this news to set in. We plan to keep it as our secret for awhile!

Our family beginning. . . and our big decision!!!

We can’t believe our family story started 6 years ago when we met at the YMCA in October of 2002. Our “courtship” was a short one as we officially started dating in December of 2002 and were married exactly 4 months later in April of 2003. 5 years of marriage later and we haven’t looked back. We have never been happier and more in love. During our anniversary dinner this year (at the Jamesport restaurant in Ludington, MI) we made an important decision that will impact our lives for years to come. We made the decision to start trying to get pregnant at the end of the summer. We are super excited about the decision and know our family and friends will be very happy for us when they find out our news. It will be our secret for quite awhile.
